Tyler’s Flying Experience from The One Pound Warriors

Tyler, aged 10 was born with a condition called Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, which means he does not have full use of his legs. As a huge Harry Potter fan, Tyler had a dream to fly. In hope to make his dream a reality, David Mawdsley from The One Pound Warriors team reached out to the Facebook community to see if an indoor flying experience could be arranged for Tyler.

The One Pound Warriors group was set up by Lillie Cotgrove from Essex for her friend Lily, who needed £300,000 to get treatment for a DIPG brain tumour. The target was reached within just 10 days. Lily sadly lost her battle against the rare condition, but the group continues to move forward in her memory. The One Pound Warriors group continues to fundraise towards a research laboratory alongside Brain Tumour Research in hope to see children receive the treatment they require here in the UK, without the need to fundraise. The Facebook group is also used as a support network for the community and raising awareness of further conditions.

The group successfully arranged a flying experience for Tyler at iFLY in Basingstoke for the 16th October 2020. The team at Fairfield BMW responded on the group to take Tyler and his family to his flying experience. Members of the community went even further and donated various Harry Potter merchandise for Tyler to receive on the day.

Andy Matthews from Fairfield BMW went along on the morning to collect Tyler and Sammy in a BMW X5, with a boot full of donated Harry Potter goodies.

Mother of Tyler, Sammy says “Tyler was so overwhelmed by the car and kept saying how cool it was. When he got in, he felt like royalty and was surprised with bags of presents. His little face in the pictures says it all!”

“Tyler got into his suit and off he went. The instructor said Tyler was so confident he was surprised at how well he did with it all. He took it all in his stride and was a pro!!”.

Helping Tyler achieve his dream to fly is exactly what Fairfield looks to achieve as a family-run business within the local community. We’re very proud of the team at Fairfield BMW and the One Pound Warriors community for arranging such a special day for Tyler.
